Erica Pencarreth is the daughter of a famous painter of the St Ives group. Now in her early thirties, Erica is a well-respected name in the art world, not as a painter but as an expert on the Impressionists. So when her sophisticated lover Willard Townley, the owner of a hugely successful commercial London gallery, shows her one particular painting, she just can’t believe – or his – luck.
It is anything but luck, though, that has led Willard Townley to this unknown Monet. And Erica, although at first happy to authenticate the provenance of the painting, soon realises that a frightening money-making swindle is taking place.
